Travel & medical insurance.
We don't sell insurance, but every journey we design requires it. Here's what to look for.
Why it's required
China's public healthcare system requires payment at the point of treatment, and repatriation in a medical emergency can cost far more than a policy. We require every traveller to hold valid travel and medical insurance for the full length of their trip before we confirm an itinerary — it's not optional, regardless of how healthy or experienced a traveller you are.
What your policy should cover
Emergency medical treatment
Cover for hospital treatment, doctor's visits, and prescribed medication in China, at a level that reflects private (not public-scheme) healthcare costs.
Emergency evacuation & repatriation
Cover for medical evacuation from remote regions (Tibet, Xinjiang, Yunnan's high plateau) and repatriation home if you're seriously ill or injured.
Trip cancellation & interruption
Cover for non-refundable costs if you need to cancel or cut your trip short — visa delays and family emergencies are the most common reasons we see.
Baggage & personal belongings
Cover for lost, stolen, or delayed luggage and personal items, including anything given to you as a gift mid-trip.
If something happens on the ground
Your travel designer and guide are your first call — we'll help you find the right clinic or hospital and coordinate with your insurer directly where we can. Keep copies of your policy documents and your insurer's emergency number accessible on your phone throughout the trip, not just in your inbox.
